Friends of Abused Families

Purpose:    

Friends of Abused Families, Inc. is a private, non-profit organization serving victims of domestic abuse and sexual assault in  Washington County.

Additional Information:

Friends was incorporated in 1977 and began providing services to victims of abuse in 1978. In July of 1995 Friends of Abused  Families, Inc. added sexual assault services to their crisis intervention programming which includes a 24-hour crisis line and one-on-one counseling services



Habitat for Humanity

Purpose:          

Habitat for Humanity works in partnership with people in need to build and renovate decent, affordable housing. The houses then are sold to those in need at no profit and with no interest charged.

Addititional Information:         

Volunteers provide most of the labor, and individual and corporate donors provide money and materials to build Habitat houses. Partner families themselves invest hundreds of hours of labor - "sweat equity" - into building their homes and the homes of others. Their mortgage payments go into a revolving Fund for Humanity that is used to build more houses.


 


 

Harvest House

Purpose:

To have a hot meal available every Saturday to feed anyone that walks in the door.

Full Shelf Food Pantry
  Purpose:

The Full Shelf Food Pantry distributes grocery items which have been purchased or donated to Washington County families in need. Families are referred to the food pantry by churches and agencies with the county. Full Shelf, being the authorized agency within Washington County, also receives government food through the state commodity program.

Addititional Information:

Full Shelf Food Pantry has seen significant growth in services over the years. In 1997, an average of 235 families, 786 lives were served each month. In 2007, the average has grown to 402 families, 1077 lives per month, 42% of these being children age 17 and under. In the last five years, 1,862 new famlies were added to our client base. Clients are provided with approximately 50 pounds per person of meat, canned and dry food products, bakery, and produce each month.
